PROFILE
My career in
mafic and ultramafic rocks extends over 40 years. Initial interest
in magmatic nickel sulphide deposits arose from my experience as
a mine geologist in the prolific Lynn Lake nickel mines, northern
Manitoba, Canada. I subsequently went on to do company related nickel
exploration and a masters degree on the mafic-ultramafic intrusions
in the Lynn Lake nickel camp. Interest in layered intrusions and
associated magmatic mineralization took me to the Bushveld Complex
in South Africa (1978-1983). During that period I was engaged as
a research officer and doctoral candidate at the Institute for Geological
Research on the Bushveld Complex, University of Pretoria. My doctoral
(D. Sc.) thesis was on the Ni-Cu-PGE, Cr and Fe-Ti-V mineralization
in the Rustenburg layered sequence south of Potgietersrus; however,
during this period I was also engaged in numerous other institute
related projects throughout the Bushveld Complex. Upon returning
to Canada, I continued my Bushveld research as a NSERC post doctoral
fellow at the University of Saskatchewan from 1983-84.
I joined the
Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) in 1984 as a research scientist
specializing in magmatic mineralization associated with mafic-ultramafic
rocks. I remained at the GSC as a senior research scientist until
2007. During that period I had the opportunity to examine nearly
every Ni-Cu-PGE, Cr and Fe-Ti-V deposit and occurrence across Canada,
and to visit and conduct research on similar types of deposits elsewhere
in the world.

In 2007 a review
article was published on "Magmatic nickel-copper-platinum
group element deposits", (Eckstrand, O.R., and Hulbert,
L.J.) in Goodfellow, W.D., ed., Mineral Deposits
of Canada: A Synthesis of Major Deposit Types, District Metallogeny,
the Evolution of Geological Provinces, and Exploration Methods:
Geological Association of Canada, Mineral Deposits Division, Special
Publication No. 5, p. 205-222.
In 2007 I joined
NiPtx Inc. a now Calgary based consulting company specializing
in the metallogeny of mafic-ultramafic rocks and associated mineral
exploration.
As a member
of two professional associations of geoscientists in Canada, I am
eligible to act as a "Qualified Person".
In addition
to my geological expertise I am very computer literate with use
of geological, geophysical, geochemical, GIS, remote sensing, statistical
and industrial QA-QC software and have a solid understanding of
the related disciplines. NiPtx Inc. has also built a strong
team of associated specialists that can be called upon as needed
for projects.
Working in the
mining and mineral exploration industry and conducting collaborative
industry-government research over the past 40 years have left me
confident in knowing the needs of the resource industry and how
to be cost effective and successful. I am fit to work in the field
and used to working in a variety of climatic conditions from arctic
to tropical.
